How my journey began
I have always been passionate about the idea of helping others and have spent my entire professional career doing so. I received both my undergraduate and master’s degree from Arizona State University. I received a bachelor of music in music therapy in 2011, which included a music therapy internship at Banner-University Medical Center (then known as Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center). After four years of a career in music therapy and childcare, I returned to ASU for my master’s in counseling, which was completed in 2017. I have been working as a counselor for nearly seven years, including an internship at a community health agency. Since then, I have received training in various therapeutic modalities, including trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Circle of Security Parenting, and Child-Parent Psychotherapy. I utilize whatever modality fits the client best because all clients are unique in what they need. This includes utilizing client-centered approach, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, play therapy, art therapy interventions, music therapy, and bibliotherapy.
In my downtime I like to camp, hike, eat delicious food (who doesn’t?), travel to visit friends, and listen to audiobooks. I look forward to beginning this wonderful journey with you!
The meaning behind the name
I chose to name my practice ‘Nova Light Counseling Services’ because in Latin, the word nova translates to ‘new’. It is my hope that my clients will gain the ability to see themselves in a new light through our journey together. I also believe that viewing various situations from a new perspective can help a person approach their difficulties differently and find resolution to life’s most daunting predicaments.
Your inner voice wants to help you navigate life’s difficulties - I’ll be here to help you strengthen it.
